Texas Homebuyers Lead the Nation in Choosing New Construction
Texas homebuyers continue to stand out in the national real estate market by favoring newly built homes at twice the national average. According to the 2025 Texas Homebuyers and Sellers Report, released by Texas REALTORS®, 30% of Texans chose new construction when buying a home. Nationally, only 15% of buyers opted for new builds during the same period between July 2023 and June 2024.
Fewer First-Time Buyers Enter the Market
This year’s report also highlights a noticeable decline in first-time home purchases. Only 20% of Texas buyers were making their first purchase, setting a new low in the state. Nationally, first-time homebuyers made up 24% of home purchases, also reaching an all-time low.
Homebuyers in Texas Are Getting Older
The age of the average Texas homebuyer rose to a record high of 58, up from 49 in the previous period and 56 before that. This increase mirrors a broader trend seen across the country, where buyers are generally older than in previous years.
Multi-Generational Living on the Rise
Another significant trend is the rise in multi-generational home purchases. In Texas, 24% of buyers said they were buying a home to live with adult children, parents, siblings, or grandparents. This is well above the national figure of 17% and represents a new high in Texas.

Sellers Take a More Patient Approach
Texas sellers are also showing more patience in the current market. Nearly half of sellers said they were willing to wait for the right offer rather than rush to sell. An additional 37% said they were ready to sell in a reasonable timeframe, and only 15% needed to sell as soon as possible. Despite this patience, 31% of sellers managed to sell their homes within one week or less. The most common reason for selling was a desire to move closer to friends and family.
High Satisfaction with REALTORS® in Texas
Texans remain highly satisfied with the services provided by REALTORS®. According to the report, 89% of buyers said they would definitely (74%) or probably (15%) use the same agent again. Sellers shared similar sentiments, with 87% saying they would definitely (71%) or probably (16%) work with their REALTOR® again.
